The Malta Adventure 195042 viewsMy mother with me (20 months old) on the HMT Lancashire on the way to Malta where we arrived on 14 September 1950 to meet up with my father who had gone ahead to take up his posting as SGt. Major RM on board HMS Euryalus based in Malta. We lived in Vittoriosa with a the Farrugia family and we became lifelong friends with them.dwoolfenden

The New Car 195841 viewsCol/SGt Harry Woolfenden and his wife Hilda at the Royal Marine Training Centre Ghajn Tuffieha posing by their latest purchase, a brand new Yellow Vauxhall Victor.
It had very smelly plastic seats which made me violently travel sick every time I ventured forth.

"Dory Harbour" near Ghajn Tuffieha49 viewsThis was my fathers "office" during his tour of Malta 1957-60. He was responsible for the raiding "dories" used by the Royal Marines at their Training Centre at Ghajn Tuffieha. It was on the rocky coastline NW of Ghajn Tuffieha beach and only accessible via private land. It was still there in 2009 although only the steel girders of the landing stage are left. (Note: Dad had set the camera on timer and did not quite make the shot look closely at right of pic.)1 commentsdwoolfenden

The reluctant Lifeboat crew!27 viewsLined up military fashion during lifeboat drill on our homeward passage aboard HMT Devonshire July 1960.
Dad was a keen photographer and insisted we line up for this shot. We all wanted to play with our friends so we put on our "defiant" faces to let him know we were not happy bunnies. Glad he ignored us now it made a great shot L/R David,Billy,Sandra and Christopher Woolfenden

The Point49 viewsNew shopping mall at Tigne.
At least some attempt has been made to preserve its military origins!
The car park underneath is the only place you can hope to find a space these days, at a price.
"Also complete is the football ground on top of The Point, which is due to be handed over, after all the legal certification and paperwork is finished, to Sliema Wanderers, as was promised in the Midi contract with the government."
